Holiday Season Marketing for Locksmiths: Get Your Hours, Ads and Profile Ready Before the Rush

Late November through early January is a strange stretch for locksmiths. Some days the phone is quiet because everyone’s at a dinner table. Other days it won’t stop, because a cold snap froze a deadbolt or someone came home from a trip to find a key that snapped off in the door. The shops that earn the most in this window aren’t necessarily the best locksmiths. They’re the ones whose marketing was set up before the first call came in.

This is a practical checklist you can finish in a week or so. None of it needs a big budget.

Fix your holiday hours before anyone searches

Nothing burns trust faster than a searcher calling the number on your Google listing at 9 p.m. on a holiday and getting voicemail. If you say you’re open and you aren’t, you’ll collect the kind of reviews that stick around.

In your Google Business Profile, add special hours for every holiday you plan to work differently, and do it at least a couple of weeks ahead. The Google Business Profile Help center walks through the steps. Then match those hours on your website, Apple Maps and Bing listings. Mismatched hours across sources are one of the quieter local SEO problems we see during an audit, and our local SEO service covers keeping that data consistent.

If you’re truly 24/7, say so only if a real person will answer. If you run a reduced on-call schedule, label it honestly. Searchers forgive “limited holiday availability.” They don’t forgive a bait listing.

Plan for the cold-weather calls

Winter brings a specific kind of problem: frozen locks, stiff deadbolts, car doors that won’t open, keys that finally give out after years of strain. People search for these in panic, usually on a phone, usually from the driveway.

That’s a content opportunity. A short page or post that explains what to do about a frozen lock, what not to do (forcing a key is how keys break), and when to call a professional will do three things for you. It answers a real question, it shows your expertise, and it gives you something to link from a Google Business Profile post. If you’ve been meaning to build out helpful content, this is the season to start. Our content marketing approach is built on exactly this idea: write what customers actually ask, from the point of view of someone who does the work.

Publish it now, not in January. Google needs time to crawl and rank new pages, and by the time the first hard freeze hits, you want to be in position. If you aren’t sure your pages are being indexed properly, a quick SEO audit will tell you.

Adjust your ads, don’t just raise the budget

More demand doesn’t automatically mean you should spend more. It means you should spend smarter. If you run Google Ads, look at three things before the season starts:

  • Ad schedule. Holiday evenings and weekends often convert differently than normal ones. Check last year’s call data if you have it.
  • Ad copy. Swap in cold-weather and travel language only where it’s true for your service area. Don’t advertise “holiday specials” you don’t offer.
  • Call handling. Paid calls you can’t answer are wasted clicks. If nobody will be on the phones at certain hours, pause ads then instead of paying for voicemail.

Our PPC team usually finds that tightening the schedule saves more money than any bid change.

Use the quiet days for the work that compounds

Holiday weeks have slow pockets. That’s your window for the jobs you keep postponing: asking recent customers for reviews, replying to old ones, adding fresh photos to your profile, and checking your site on your own phone as if you were a stranger in a hurry. Can you find the call button in two seconds? Does the page load without a wait? You can test speed for free with Google PageSpeed Insights.

Reviews matter extra in this season because emergency searchers decide fast. Research from BrightLocal has consistently shown that people read reviews before choosing a local business, so a few recent, specific ones can tip a call your way. A simple holiday checklist

  • Special hours set in Google, Apple Maps and Bing, matching your website
  • A cold-weather or lockout help page published and linked from your profile
  • Ad schedule reviewed, with ads off during hours nobody can answer
  • Call tracking working, so you know which channel produced the calls
  • Five or more recent review requests sent, and all old reviews answered
  • Phone and call button tested on a real mobile device

Be honest about what you can handle

Because locksmithing sits in a trust-sensitive category, how you present yourself matters more than clever tactics. Only claim the coverage and response times you can deliver, and keep your licensing and service details visible. That’s not just good ethics, it lines up with how Google evaluates helpful, trustworthy businesses, as outlined in Google Search Central.
